At least six Israeli soldiers were killed in a single incident in the southern Gaza Strip, the Jewish state's army announced today.
The soldiers were aged between 19 and 21 , the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement, and belonged to the 605th Combat Engineer Battalion, responsible for destroying Hamas infrastructure in the Strip.
Israeli media reported that there were seven victims, but one has not yet been officially identified.
According to an initial IDF investigation, a Palestinian “terrorist operative” planted a bomb on the Puma armored fighting vehicle in which the soldiers were traveling in Khan Yunis. The blast set the vehicle ablaze and attempts to put it out were unsuccessful. All soldiers on board died in the blaze.
