Everyone thought they had been stolen or missing for a hundred years. But today, the history of the legendary yellow diamond, known as the "Florentiner," and some of the Habsburg family jewels, which belonged to the legendary Sissi, among others, will have to be rewritten. "The Florentiner is located, along with other family jewels, in a safe deposit box in Canada," revealed the mystery in an interview with Der Spiegel.
A discovery that rewrites the history of one of the greatest mysteries of imperial Europe. The Habsburg treasure disappeared in November 1918 , when Emperor Charles I, at the end of the First World War, ordered the transfer of the valuables from the treasury of the Hofburg in Vienna to Switzerland for safekeeping.
The yellow diamond was also found alongside Sisi's diamond crown, an emerald watch that Empress Maria Theresa had given to her daughter Marie Antoinette, and other priceless objects . But in 1921, all trace of the treasure was lost. For decades, it was believed that it had been stolen or sold, and according to the memoirs of a Swiss dealer published in 1966, the Florentiner had even been dismembered.
Today, however, Charles of Habsburg's revelation changes everything . After a century of legends and conjecture, the imperial treasure returns to light.
