The number of injuries in the shooting in Toledo, Ohio, near the Old West End Festival is rising. At least 12 people were injured by gunfire, Toledo Police Deputy Chief Joe Heffernan said at a press conference, according to the Danish news agency Ritzau.

Police responded to a report of a person suffering from gunshot wounds in the historic Old West End area on Saturday afternoon, local time. Upon arriving, officers found several people with gunshot wounds. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, police said. The youngest is 14, the oldest is 61. Most are in their early twenties.

Police are investigating the possibility that there were at least two armed assailants, likely shooting at each other, Deputy Chief Joe Heffernan emphasized. "Summer festivals should be safe places where families can be together without fear of violence," Ohio's Republican governor, Mike DeWine, wrote in a post on X.
