Romania's Constitutional Court has annulled the presidential election.

The runoff was scheduled for next Sunday between the pro-European candidate Elena Lasconi and the far-right candidate Calin Georgescu, who came out on top in the first round against the backdrop of possible Russian interference.

The cancellation of the first round, held on November 24, occurred after the declassification of confidential security documents, relating to alleged foreign interference, primarily from Russia , in the electoral campaign conducted on TikTok by Calin Georgescu.

The decision to cancel was completely unexpected after the High Court itself, ruling on appeals and objections in recent days , had instead confirmed the results of the first round of the presidential elections , paving the way for a runoff.
