Life imprisonment without the possibility of early release for Simon Levy, the 40-year-old from the London borough of Tottenham found guilty of femicide and serial rape committed last year after escaping surveillance from the Metropolitan Police (or Scotland Yard).

Following a unanimous guilty verdict delivered last week by a jury at the Old Bailey, Levy was today handed down the maximum sentence by a professional judge.

Judge Mark Lucraft highlighted the ferocity of the attacks that killed two "vulnerable" women, 53-year-old Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and 39-year-old Sheryl Wilkins (both driven into prostitution by drug addiction), in isolated areas of London's suburbs, who were mercilessly raped and murdered in March and August 2025. He also highlighted the attack that resulted in the rape and attempted suffocation of at least a third victim.

The crimes occurred while the man was on the special surveillance list of the Kingdom's main police force, given his previous convictions.

The affair has reignited controversy over Scotland Yard, following promises of radical overhaul and cleanup made in recent years by the current commander, Sir Mark Rowley, who will take office in 2022. This was in response to scandals that emerged regarding the past involvement of "bad apples" within the department in serious crimes and suspicions of various cover-ups or widespread negligence.
