A devastating fire has broken out in an eight-story commercial and residential building in Seongnam, south of Seoul, South Korea. Several people were trapped inside.

The news comes from the South Korean news agency Ynt which broadcast images of the building enveloped in black smoke.

Over 100 firefighters are on site .

Authorities said 50 people managed to escape on their own, while emergency services evacuated 40 others.

There are currently no reports of injuries or victims.

The causes of the fire are still to be ascertained, but according to initial reconstructions the flames broke out on the lower floors, with smoke rapidly engulfing the entire structure.
