The Mexican police intercepted a truck headed for the US border, inside which, stowed "in inhumane conditions", were traveling 334 migrants, some of them minors.
The news was released by the National Institute for Migration (Inm) of Mexico, according to which the discovery was made in Cosamaloapan, in the central-eastern state of Veracruz.
In a joint statement from the INM, the Ministry of Security and the National Guard, it is specified that the truck was stopped for a routine check, when "cries for help came from inside".
The officers then asked the driver to open the box, finding hundreds of crowded people in front of them, "many of whom - it is reported - with symptoms of suffocation, derived from the heat, the lack of ventilation and the overcrowding in which they were traveling".
The Mexican INM then ordered the transfer of migrants to the Acayucan Assistance Center for their identification and the provision of any care, while minors, with or without the company of an adult, were placed "under the protection of the System for the integral development of the family ".
