General Igor Kirillov, commander of the Russian Armed Forces' nuclear, chemical and biological defense troops, was killed in an attack in Moscow, Tass news agency reported.

Kirillov's deputy also died. According to reports, the deaths of the two officers were caused by an explosion from an explosive device placed on an electric scooter. The attack took place on Ryazansky Avenue, in the south-east of the Russian capital.

The attack was claimed by the Ukrainian services : "Kirillov was a war criminal and a completely legitimate target since he gave the order to use prohibited chemical weapons against the Ukrainian army . Such an inglorious end awaits all those who kill Ukrainians. Punishment for war crimes is inevitable," a Ukrainian source told RBC, confirming that the Ukrainian services (SBU) were behind the explosion that led to the killing of the Russian general.

Just yesterday , Kirillov was convicted in absentia by a Ukrainian court for using chemical weapons banned in Ukraine . Law enforcement officials have established that, on Kirillov's orders, more than 4,800 cases of enemy use of chemical weapons have been recorded since the beginning of the war.
