"Changing the time makes no sense."
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is taking up the cause of many European citizens' struggle and announcing that Madrid will ask the next European Council to abolish the change to daylight saving time , in line with what was approved six years ago by the European Parliament.
During the night between Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October, we returned to standard time, the clocks moved back sixty minutes, marking the beginning of shorter days and dark afternoons.
"Frankly, I no longer see any point in it," Sanchez states in a video message on X. "In every survey they've been asked about, the majority of Spaniards and Europeans are against the time change. Moreover , science tells us that it entails minimal energy savings and has a negative impact on people's health and lives, because it alters biological rhythms twice a year ."
"This is a debate that has been going on for a long time, because the European Parliament voted six years ago to end the time change. Therefore, today the Spanish government will advocate in the European Council to enforce that majority vote and finally stop the time change in 2026," announces the Socialist leader. "What is useful politics? The kind that listens to citizens and science and incorporates them into legislation," concludes Sanchez.
