Sailors aboard a Russian naval vessel fired a warning shot at a yacht that approached them in the English Channel, UK media reported.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning and involved the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich, which was in the waters between the Isle of Wight and Normandy.
The news was confirmed by Moscow: "In order to attract the attention of the yacht's crew, signal flares were fired and acoustic signals were emitted. Despite these measures, the vessel continued its dangerous approach," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. Following this, "the frigate commander decided to fire warning shots in the direction of the vessel using the ship's small arms," the ministry added.
