Fighting is raging in Pokrovsk, Ukraine, where the Russian army is attempting a decisive push to conquer the strategic stronghold. Special forces from the GUR, Kiev's military intelligence, have responded with a counteroffensive in an attempt to break the siege. Meanwhile, Moscow has launched the Khabarovsk submarine, designed to carry the Poseidon nuclear-capable underwater drone, after testing new missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads in recent days. Meanwhile , in Berlin, the drone alert has been raised again : the capital's airport was paralyzed for approximately two hours , with all flights suspended after several unmanned aircraft were spotted over the airport.
The battle around the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk is thus raging. The Russians have announced that they have "neutralized" the Ukrainian commandos and thwarted "seven more enemy attacks launched to escape encirclement." "The counteroffensive has been foiled, and they are starting to surrender." The Russian Defense Ministry assured, citing eleven Ukrainian soldiers killed, all landed from a helicopter one kilometer from Pokrovsk. This news was immediately dismissed as "propaganda of the occupiers" by the Ukrainian armed forces, who reiterated that their troops are still operating in the city, albeit in a complicated situation: "Our soldiers," they explained, "have to contain the pressure of several thousand men, a group that continues to attempt to infiltrate residential areas and cut off our supply routes. But we continue to fight; there is no encirclement."
Meanwhile, Kiev also reports hitting an oil pipeline near Moscow, a vital supply route for Russian troops at the front. The IAEA also expresses concern over reports of further damage to the power line supplying the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Unidentified drones were spotted over Berlin's Willy-Brandt Airport on Friday evening, forcing the airport to close for two hours. Less than a month ago, drones were spotted twice in Munich, causing the airport to close, canceling nearly fifty flights, and diverting many others. This is a long chain of events that is testing the nerves of German citizens: dozens of reported cases suggest a deliberate destabilization strategy. Many observers believe the signature of the document is that of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moreover, just Thursday, the Munich Court convicted three men of espionage and attempted sabotage, one of whom had also served in the pro-Russian militias in Donetsk.
The Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel tried to poke fun at the drone incident, recalling how months ago, rumors spread of a lion in the countryside near the capital, which later turned out to be a wild boar. But this time, there was no mistake. That's why the toll, not yet final, is serious: one flight was canceled, while between fifteen and twenty were diverted to other airports. Coincidentally, just on Friday, the airport celebrated its fifth anniversary: after an interminable series of delays and errors, Willy-Brandt-Ber was inaugurated on October 31, 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. On Friday night, the airport exceptionally extended its opening hours until 2 a.m. to allow for the departures and arrivals of delayed flights. Regular air traffic resumed on Saturday.
