"We are here," Von der Leyen added, "to underline our unwavering commitment to Ukraine's just struggle. And to send a clear message to both the Ukrainian people and the aggressor: we will not give up until peace is restored . Peace on Ukraine's terms."

Yesterday, on the eve of her departure, the President of the European Commission declared: "One day, Ukraine will be safe. Ukraine will be free. Ukraine will be part of our European family."
