An unconditional 30-day ceasefire, the release of prisoners and a meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin are the three goals that Ukraine is aiming for to resolve the conflict with Russia, Kiev's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said after participating in talks with a Moscow delegation at the Ciragan Palace in Istanbul, Turkey.
An unconditional truce will be "the basis for starting negotiations," Umerov said after the talks. Kiev also insists on a prisoner exchange, while the leaders' meeting is open to the possibility that Donald Trump will also participate .
Ukraine, however, said that Russia rejected the proposal for an unconditional ceasefire , Kiev's negotiating team said at the end of talks with Moscow in Istanbul.
"We proposed to the Russian side to hold a meeting by the end of this month, between June 20 and 30," Umerov added at the end of the negotiations.
