One of the umpteenth stories of pain and brutal violence that come from the war in Ukraine.

It is that of Sasha, a nine-year-old girl who was fleeing from Hostomel, a suburb of Kiev, with her father, mother and sister, when her car was hit by a barrage of bullets from the Russian army.

As reported by the Daily Mail today, her father died, while Sasha took refuge for two days in a cellar, before being taken to a hospital in the capital, where doctors had to amputate her arm to save her life.

“I don't know why the Russians shot me. I hope it was an accident and they didn't intend to hurt me, ”little Sasha said after the doctors surgery, with the naivety of a child who struggles to understand what human cruelty can lead to.

“They shot me in the arm. I ran after my sister. My mother fell. I thought it was the end. But she wasn't dead, she was just sheltering from the gunshots. He was hiding. Then I lost consciousness. Someone took me to a cellar. And then some people took me to the hospital on a towel, ”he explained.

The nurse who treated her recounted the moments after the operation: “The first thing Sasha asked me was, 'Please be honest, do I have a left hand or not?' I didn't know what to say. I didn't know whether to say anything, lie or tell her the truth. He asked if she would be in good health and if she could have a new pink flower-colored artificial arm. She is so strong. She doesn't cry because she knows only the weak cry. he thanked her for saving her life and for taking care of her ”.
