Two-hour phone call between Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron, the first after three years of “freeze”.
At the center of the conversation between the Russian and French presidents was the request by the Paris leader for a truce with Ukraine and the opening of peace negotiations.
On this subject, the Elysée announced, the two presidents "will continue to talk to each other."
Macron also insisted on the responsibility of Paris and Moscow, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, on the nuclear issue and on the urgency for Iran to comply with its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to cooperate with the IAEA, "whose inspectors must be able to resume work immediately."
