In the aftermath of the Air India flight tragedy, which crashed shortly after takeoff from the Indian city of Ahmedabad, investigators managed to recover one of the two black boxes from the wreckage of the plane.

The search for the other is underway, the Hindustan Times reported. All but one passenger on the London-bound flight died after the plane crashed. But the death toll – still provisional – has risen to around 300 because the plane, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed into a residential area where the BJ Medical College dormitory was located .

The flight was bound for London-Gatwick . It crashed immediately after takeoff, as soon as it lifted off the runway it tried to gain altitude without success. The pilot, Sumeet Sabharwal, 60, was a veteran with almost thirty years of experience and close to retirement. He was also a commercial flight trainer.
