In France, clashes in Paris after the Constitutional Council gave the go-ahead to much of the pension reform wanted by President Emmanuel Macron .
During the protest march, which started from the Hotel de Ville and headed for Place de la Concorde, scuffles were triggered with the police. Groups of protesters lit smoke bombs and threw stones at the agents, also destroying some windows.
A new wave of protests is feared, also fueled by the disappointment over the decision of the Constitutional Council itself to reject the request of 250 opposition MPs to hold a shared initiative referendum on the much-contested pension reform, which raises the retirement age from 62 to 64 years old.
