Former Paraguayan President Santiago Peña was arrested at his home in Asunción by judicial order in the Ueno Bank case.

The arrest occurred simultaneously with the ceremony at the National Congress during which Pedro Alliana was sworn in, formally assuming the presidency of the Republic following Peña's dismissal. The former president is accused of responsibility for the crisis triggered by the collapse of Ueno Bank. Hundreds of demonstrators protested overnight, demanding prison time rather than house arrest.
