Barack Obama has clarified that the likelihood of Earth having been visited by aliens is "low," after some of his comments about extraterrestrial species attracted attention online. " They're real, but I haven't seen them ," he responded to American podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen during an interview over the weekend.
However, he added, " They're not being held in Area 51. There's no underground facility, unless there's a massive conspiracy that kept it from the president of the United States ." Obama then explained that his words were in line with "the spirit of quick questioning," adding that, statistically, the probability of life existing in the universe is high, but that during his presidency he had seen "no evidence" of contact with extraterrestrials. The former president's response to the podcaster was picked up by several media outlets and attracted considerable attention online , prompting him to post a clarification on his official Instagram account.
"I was trying to stay in the spirit of a quick exchange, but since this has gotten attention, let me clarify," he wrote in the caption accompanying the podcast video. " Statistically, the universe is so vast that it's likely life exists out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances of us being visited by aliens are low, and during my presidency, I have seen no evidence whatsoever that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really ."
