No house arrest for Ilaria Salis . The Budapest court decided this yesterday . Thus the Hungarian lawyer of the 39-year-old of Sardinian origins announced the appeal after Easter . The teacher - who has been in prison in Budapest for 13 months on charges of attacking three far-right militants - also appeared yesterday in court with chains and handcuffs.

" We have to wait for the Court to put in writing the order pronounced yesterday - explains the lawyer Gyorgy Magyar - that is, the rejection of house arrest for Ilaria Salis, and it will take a few days after the Easter holidays". "Immediately afterwards, and certainly within the established deadlines, we will present the appeal against this order to the Court of Appeal which has already issued a sentence in our favor, regarding the translation of all the documents of the trial into Italian", concluded the lawyer , who made no assumptions about the timing of the ruling on the appeal.

For Roberto Salis, Ilaria's father, «the appeal against the failure to grant house arrest must be made, even if it is a path about which I have no great illusions. Trying to make Hungary think in terms of the rule of law seems like a waste of time to me, but we do everything we can do." In the meantime, however, the parent wrote to President Sergio Mattarella, «a very dry letter referring to the one I sent him on January 17 and to which he immediately responded. He is the guarantor of the Constitution and Article 3 applies to all Italian citizens: he can intervene in the Orban government and must move the Italian government because it evidently did not do what it was supposed to do."
