A woman in her 30s attacked and injured several passers-by with a knife in Theresienwiese, Munich's huge park: the police intervened and shot the woman after she refused to let go of the weapon.

According to the German newspaper Bild, she died shortly after being taken to hospital.

Authorities have not said how many people were injured or how serious they were. According to an initial reconstruction, it was not a terrorist act, but the motive is being ascertained.
