"No sanctions will be able to force the Russian Federation to change its consistent position."
This was stated by Russian leader Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov , as reported by the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
Yesterday, US President Donald Trump said he was ready to impose new sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
The EU is also considering new measures to target Moscow and force it to negotiate a ceasefire.
"We have everything we need to be ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine when peace comes. To achieve this, we must continue to support Kiev in the war and increase pressure on Russia," said European Council President Antonio Costa. He added: "It's not easy. We must combat the shadow fleet and reduce Moscow's ability to finance the conflict, not only by increasing our own sanctions but by imposing secondary sanctions on countries that purchase gas and oil from Moscow."
