The death toll from the shooting that took place yesterday afternoon in a restaurant in Cetinje, Montenegro, has risen to 12, the prosecutor's office announced today. "Twelve people were killed, including two children," prosecutor Andrijana Nastic told the media, thus updating the previous toll of at least ten victims. The shooter committed suicide with a shot to the head while surrounded by police and died while being taken to hospital.

His name was Aca Martinovic and he was 45 years old. He first killed four people in the Velestovo restaurant on the outskirts of Cetinije, then he shot wildly in three other places in the city, killing several more victims.

The massacre on New Year's Day shocked the whole of Montenegro, whose authorities, starting with President Jakov Milatovic, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic and the leaders of all political forces, said they were shocked. Messages of condolence and expressions of closeness and solidarity were sent by the leaders of neighboring countries. From today and for three days, national mourning has been proclaimed, with the suspension of all events scheduled for the beginning of the new year.

However, it would not be an attack but an event of a "private nature", as the minister defined it. It was a fight that ended in tragedy, at the height of which the man also shot at some members of his family.
