A terrible accident occurred in Kushinagar, a district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. While a wedding was in progress, some women and girls fell into a well: the metal sheet that covered it gave way. Thirteen victims.
The group was sitting on the slab when it split. According to the magistrate following the investigation, the structure was old and could not bear the weight of so many people. The women, who fell into the well, were then crushed by the rubble.
Indian weddings are often grandiose events whose celebrations welcome large numbers of guests and last for several days. Five years ago, 24 wedding guests were killed when a wall collapsed during a violent storm in the western state of Rajasthan.
