Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor best known for playing son Theodore "Theo" Huxtable on the hit TV sitcom "The Cosby Show," has died at 54 .
Warner drowned yesterday off the coast of Costa Rica , the Costa Rican National Police told ABC News. Warner's official cause of death was asphyxiation, police said.
The actor died near Cocles, a beach in Limón, Costa Rica. Police said he was swept into the water by a strong current and was found yesterday afternoon .
In the sitcom that made him famous and earned him several Young Artist Awards , he played the only son of gynecologist Cliff Robinson (Bill Cosby) . He then had numerous other roles, especially on television. The last was in The Resident, a series in which he was one of the leads.
