"I will honor the mandate to which the French elected me until the last day."
Emmanuel Macron does not resign after the earthquake caused by the fall of the Barnier government and the failed budget maneuver. And he relaunches: "The responsibility for what happened is not mine, but that of Parliament. I was democratically elected for a 5-year term and I will stay until the end", announces the French president in an expected televised intervention.
Macron does not name the new prime minister: "I will charge him in the coming days to form a government of general interest. The prime minister will have to consult and form a small government at your service, composed of all the political forces willing not to vote no confidence in him."
And he announces to the French that "a special law will be presented to Parliament by mid-December, a temporary law that will allow, as provided for by the Constitution, the continuity of public services and the life of the country", thus extending the 2024 budget to 2025.
Finally, Macron attacks the parties that have brought down the Prime Minister: "The far left and the far right have united. Despite the concessions made by Barnier to all parliamentary groups, the government has been brought down because the far right and the far left have united in an anti-republican front." A jab also goes to the Socialists: "Even forces that governed France until yesterday have chosen to help them."
