French President Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky have signed a letter of intent for Kiev's future purchase of up to 100 Rafale fighter jets, air defense systems, and drones, the Elysée Palace announced.
According to the Elysée, this agreement, which extends "over a time horizon of approximately ten years," provides for possible future contracts for "Ukraine's acquisition of new French defense equipment": "Approximately 100 Rafales, with their associated weapons," as well as other weapons, including the next-generation Samp-T air defense system currently under development, radar systems, and drones.
According to the French presidency, the memorandum of understanding between Paris and Kiev also concerns "new acquisitions of rocket-propelled grenades (AASM Hammer)" and drones. Last month, Zelensky had already signed a letter of intent regarding the acquisition of 100-150 Swedish Gripen fighter jets.
