The death toll from the fires that have been ravaging Los Angeles for days has risen to 16. The announcement comes from the county sheriff, Robert Luna, specifying that 13 more people are missing and more than 12,000 structures have been destroyed .

So far, more than 153,000 citizens have received evacuation orders , while the truce in the Santa Ana winds has ended , with a new front of gusts of 80 km per hour that has returned to blow on parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties and is expected to intensify in the coming hours.

Another even more violent wind front is expected from Monday to Wednesday.

And anger and controversy are growing among residents over the management of the fires, which have destroyed over 10,000 buildings, causing damages worth 150 billion.

Celebrities are mobilizing. Sharon Stone and Halle Berry are donating clothes, Angelina Jolie is welcoming displaced friends into her home, and so are Sussexes Harry and Meghan Markle. Mexico and Canada are sending aid.

Governor Newsom has meanwhile ordered an investigation into the water shortage.
