A video circulating on social media shows a man impersonating Almasri attacking a person on the street, throwing them to the ground, and violently beating them. According to Arab media, the video appears to depict the Libyan general. The video, also posted on X by the NGO Refugees in Libya, shows the attack from start to finish. However, some users believe the images may have been created using artificial intelligence.
"A new video is circulating showing Osama Njeem, popularly known as Almasri," Refugees in Libya commented, "killing a Libyan citizen on the streets of Tripoli. We are still working to confirm the exact date of the incident, but it happened recently. This is the same criminal wanted by the ICC for war crimes , who was evaded by the Italian government in early January. Who will be held accountable as he continues to kill and terrorize innocent Libyans, including refugees and migrants?"
Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein was harsh in her words. "The images shown by the Libyan media are terrifying. If it were confirmed that the criminal Almasri committed the barbaric murder of a Libyan citizen in the middle of the street, the Italian government must answer a simple question. Giorgia Meloni can no longer avoid explaining to Italians why her government , with a political choice she herself supported a few days ago, willfully ignored the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant for Almasri for his crimes, murders, and torture, and released him and returned him to Tripoli, where he continues to kill." Five Star Movement leader Giuseppe Conte was also skeptical, openly condemning the video on social media, which allegedly shows the Libyan general: "Yes, that's right, the rapist and murderer wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity, sent back to Libya with full honors by the Meloni government on a state plane flying the Italian flag. Giorgia, have you seen those images? Do you have a shred of conscience left?"
