One of the three people convicted of the 2017 attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils, which resulted in 16 deaths and over 130 injuries, was released.
The Spanish court of the Audiencia Nacional has granted bail to Said Ben Iazza, sentenced to eight years for collaboration with the terrorist organization, is considered responsible for having helped the group in the preparation of the attack on La Rambla, when a pickup truck managed to enter the pedestrian zone and hit several people zigzagging at full speed through the crowd.
The court's decision is purely "technical", due to the fact that the convict has filed an appeal and has in the meantime served the maximum period of preventive prison provided by Spanish law, which is four years.
The court has established some precautionary measures for him, such as a ban on leaving Spain without judicial authorization.
Two other people were provisionally sentenced for the attack, respectively to 53 and 46 years in prison. The latter will remain in preventive prison.
