The King and Queen Consort arrived at the Apostolic Palace with a procession of numerous escort cars.

Once they arrived at their destination, Charles and Camilla were received by an honor guard, welcomed by the Regent of the Papal Household, Monsignor Leonardo Sapienza.

Then the private meeting with Pope Leo XIV.

The King, the Dean and Canons of St George's College, Windsor, were offered by the Pontiff to become “Papal Confrater” of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

This exchange of titles is in effect a recognition of spiritual communion and of the path that the Church of England (of which King Charles is Supreme Governor) and the Roman Catholic Church have travelled over the last 500 years.

There will also be an exchange of honours : the King will confer upon the Pope the honour of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (the order traditionally bestowed upon heads of state). The Pope will instead confer upon the King the honour of Knight Grand Cross with Collar of the Vatican Order of Pope Pius IX . Queen Camilla, instead, will be made a Dame Grand Cross of the same order.
