She killed two children and conspired to assassinate her husband's first wife, driven by "extreme religious beliefs".
An Idaho jury after seven hours of deliberation condemned Lori Vallow Daybell, sadly famous in the United States as "doomsay mom".
The trial, in Boise, Idaho, began on April 3, after years of delays because the woman had been declared unfit to stand a hearing and forced to undergo psychiatric treatment.
In 2017, with the reading of the books of Chad Daybell, a religious author whose texts focused on the apocalypse, Lori began to be increasingly permeated by extreme beliefs about the imminent end of the world. Just with Daybell, in 2019, he had opened a religious podcast in which they spread their positions.
Only death, they believed, could free people's souls from darkness. The two, said a friend, thought that evil spirits could turn people into zombies by taking over their bodies. She herself called the two children "zombies".
In 2019 the culmination of madness: the woman killed her two sons Tylee Ryan, 16, and Joshua "JJ", 7, and fled to Hawaii with her husband Chad Daybell, with whom she married. The two boys were found a year after their disappearance, buried on the Daybell property. JJ's body was wrapped in trash bags, his arms bound with duct tape. Tylee's remains were charred.
The violence also affected Charles Vallow , previous husband of Lori Vallow, killed by her brother in July 2019, a few months after filing for divorce. And Tammy Daybell , former wife of Chad Daybell, who was found dead in October 2019 of what doctors at the time thought were natural causes and which later turned out to be asphyxiation.
Vallow has now been found guilty of the murder of her two sons and conspiracy to murder Tammy Daybell after a lengthy trial. Chad Daybell will face court in a separate trial.
