«Giorgia Meloni should not comment on French affairs, everyone should stay at home and the sheep will be well looked after» .
Emmanuel Macron spoke from New Delhi following the Prime Minister's statements on nationalist activist Quentine Deranque, killed in a beating by political opponents in France .
"I am always surprised to observe that nationalist people, who do not want to be disturbed in their own homes, are always the first to comment on what is happening in other people's homes ," the French president told reporters.
The Prime Minister's words were greeted "with astonishment," according to sources at Palazzo Chigi. The same sources emphasized that Meloni "expressed her deep condolences and dismay over the tragic killing of young Quentin Deranque and condemned the climate of ideological hatred sweeping across several European nations. These statements represent a sign of closeness to the French people affected by this terrible event and have no bearing whatsoever on France's internal affairs ."
Giorgia Meloni, after the murder, wrote on social media that "the death of a young man in his early 20s, attacked by groups linked to left-wing extremism in a climate of ideological hatred spreading across several countries, is a wound for all of Europe." She added that "no political idea, no ideological opposition can justify violence or turn confrontation into physical aggression. When hatred and violence replace dialogue, democracy always loses."
