The assailant of an Italian tourist tortured in New York held him upside down from the top of a ladder and threatened to kill his family, prosecutors said, according to the Daily News, regarding John Woeltz, who a judge ordered held without bail.

Woeltz subjected the Italian tourist to beatings by using electric wires to shock him, using a firearm to hit him in the head and hanging him from the top floor of a staircase, court documents said, confirming that the torture was carried out to force the 28-year-old Italian to hand over the passwords to his Bitcoin account .
