This morning, the Thaon di Revel vessel, flagship of the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation, the European Union mission in the Mediterranean, inspected the oil tanker Toa Payoh, a member of Russia's so-called "shadow fleet," under EU sanctions. The vessel's nationality is determined by the flag it is authorized to fly. The Toa Payoh is sailing under the Cameroonian flag.

The oil tanker, which left the port of Cotonou, Benin, on July 16 and was headed for Istanbul, was intercepted west of Pantelleria.
