Among the victims there would also be a senior commander of the Pasdaran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards: Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a leading exponent of the Quds Forces in Syria and Lebanon.

The Iranian ambassador to Damascus, Hossein Akbari, said that "Tehran's response to the attack will be harsh". The diplomat then added that "after having removed the rubble of the building destroyed by the raid, the exact number of victims will be made known".
