Helicopter crash for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage . It would have had an "abrupt" emergency landing due to bad weather conditions.
The news arriving is contradictory. The Iranian Mehr agency first responded and then deleted the news that the president was not injured .
Helicopters were sent to the site, but they were unable to reach the landing site due to bad weather and "too thick" fog in the area. The searches therefore continue on the ground, around twenty teams have been sent but it will take time to reach the place due to adverse weather conditions .
The crash occurred near Jolfa, a town on the border with Azerbaijan, about 375 miles northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran. Raisi had been in Azerbaijan early Sunday morning to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The semiofficial Fars news agency urged Iranians to pray for Ebrahim Raisi, and state television broadcast prayers for the Iranian president . State TV also broadcast images of faithful praying at the Imam Reza Shrine in the city of Mashhad, one of the holiest sites in Shiite Islam.
Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has called an emergency meeting of the Security Council .
