Iran has designated the European Union member states' naval and air forces as terrorist organizations. This is Tehran's response to the "illegal and unjustified decision" taken last Thursday by the European Council, which listed the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, following the Foreign Affairs Council's agreement on January 29. A statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated this.
"The EU governments' decision is contrary to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter," the statement, cited by IRNA, reads. It cites a 2019 Iranian law, passed after the United States designated the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, which stipulates that "all countries that in any way respect or support the US decision will be subject to reciprocal measures." On February 1, the Iranian parliament designated the "European armies" as terrorist organizations.
