The next plenary conference of Arlem, the Euro-Mediterranean Regional Assembly, will be organized in the autumn in Sardinia.
The news comes from Rabat, Morocco, where the ninth Conference of the Commission for Territorial Sustainable Development of Arlem is underway, with the participation of the President of the Regional Council Michele Pais .

The Arlem conference therefore returns to Italy after 10 years and for the first time Sardinia will do the honors.

«It is – comments Pais – a major international event involving over 40 countries including Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine. For Sardinia it is a great opportunity to weave ever more economic and political relations between the countries of the Mediterranean but also, in this particular historical moment, to build bridges between peoples and strengthen peace".

The acceptance of Sardinia's candidacy as venue for the next ARLEM Conference is the epilogue of a long work carried out in recent years in Europe:
«Our island – continues Pais – will be the absolute protagonist of the relations of the Mediterranean countries for a few days. It will be a moment of meetings at the highest level but also an opportunity to make our beautiful land increasingly known to an international audience. But the presence of the representatives of the Mediterranean countries and of the European Union will also be an opportunity to strengthen a greater awareness, until now insufficient, of Europe towards the problems linked to the insular condition».
