A "no" vote wins in Iceland's referendum on resuming negotiations for accession to the European Union . This is the announcement made by public television regarding the results of Sunday's vote, as the counting draws to a close.

The latest data showed that the "no" vote was 51.8% to 48.2%, 3.6 points ahead of the "yes" vote.

Only a fraction of the ballots remain to be counted in two of Iceland's six electoral districts , both of which have already swung "no."

A result that was unpredictable until the very end , even though the “no” front had grown significantly in recent days.
