Hungarian justice has sentenced German activist Maja T. to eight years in prison for violence.
The trial of the 25-year-old is a carbon copy of the one involving Ilaria Salis , now a member of parliament.
The young woman was in fact accused along with 19 other European activists indicted by the Hungarian justice system for the attacks committed in 2023 against nine far-right militants on the sidelines of a neo-Nazi rally in Budapest.
On her social media channels, Ilaria Salis described it as a "show trial," adding: "There's no doubt about it. It's a Kafkaesque stage on which the squalid spectacle of the exemplary punishment the regime inflicts on its enemies unfolds."
In the evening, the Budapest court also handed down a 7-year sentence, in absentia, to another Italian activist, Gabriele Marchesi, and a 2 and a half-year sentence, with a suspended sentence, to activist Anna Christina Mehwald.
The defense of all three defendants has filed an appeal, while the prosecution has also filed an appeal requesting an increased sentence.
