Donald Trump continues to press on Greenland: “We need it for national security reasons,” he writes on Social Truth, saying that anything less than US control on the island would be “unacceptable.”

"NATO becomes much more formidable and effective with Greenland in US hands. Anything less is unacceptable ." The Arctic island, the tycoon continues, "is crucial to the Golden Dome we are building. NATO should lead the way to it. If we don't do it, Russia or China will, and that can't happen! Militarily, without the vast power of the United States, which I largely built during my first term and which I am now taking to a new and even higher level, NATO wouldn't be an effective force or deterrent, not even close! They know it, and so do I. NATO becomes much more formidable and effective with Greenland in US hands."

A few hours earlier, Trump had threatened Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen , who said the autonomous territory would prefer to remain part of Denmark rather than join the United States. "I don't know who he is. I don't know anything about him. But this is going to be a big problem for him," Trump said in an interview with the New York Times.

And as tensions escalate , Denmark has decided to strengthen its military presence on the island : "But we will also focus more within NATO on more exercises and a greater NATO presence in the Arctic," said Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

Denmark is sending personnel and equipment to support its permanent presence, in response to Trump's threat to seize the Arctic island. To begin with, a so-called forward command has been deployed to Greenland. The forward command's task, among other things, is to ensure logistics and environmental readiness to accommodate any subsequent major forces.

French President Emmanuel Macron also issued a warning to the US: "A violation of Greenland's sovereignty would have unprecedented cascading consequences . If the sovereignty of a European and allied country were violated, the cascading consequences would be unprecedented. France is following the situation with the utmost attention and will act in full solidarity with Denmark and its sovereignty ."
