Tensions continue to escalate over Greenland . US President Donald Trump is not backing down from his ambitions for the island and is threatening tariffs on opposing countries.
European leaders will not "offer too much resistance" to his attempt to purchase Greenland, he reiterated in a statement to reporters in Florida. The tycoon then threatened a 200% tax on French wines and champagne in response to his counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, refusing to join the Gaza Peace Council.
Meanwhile, on the social media site Truth, Trump posted a photomontage of himself holding a US flag on Greenlandic soil. Behind him are his vice president, J.D. Vance, and Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. Next to him is a sign that explicitly reads: "Greenland, US territory from 2026."
Following are some posts in which the White House leader himself reiterates the need for the US to acquire Greenland. Then, in another AI-edited image, Trump is seen sitting behind his desk in the Oval Office, with several European leaders in front of him, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Next to them is a map, in which Greenland and Canada are covered by the US flag.
