Greenland's newly elected head of government, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, is in Copenhagen for his first official visit to Denmark since taking office.

Today he met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen with whom he discussed the security situation on the Arctic island which remains tense in itself. following the statements made by US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly spoken of his intentions to "annex" the vast territory to the United States you go.

"You can't have a partner if there's no mutual respect. We're never going to be a property that can be bought by anyone," Nielsen said .

During the visit, almost in response to Trump's statements, Nielsen himself also explained that Greenland is working to "strengthen and modernize its relations with Denmark", an intention consolidated precisely by the "disrespectful rhetoric" of the US administration.

"We are in a foreign policy situation that requires us to move closer," said the Arctic island's new prime minister at a joint press conference with his Danish counterpart Frederiksen.

Nielsen added that Greenland is "not a property for sale," but that the region is ready for a solid partnership with the U.S., although "mutual respect" is needed.
