New absolute record of coronavirus infections, since the beginning of the pandemic, in the United Kingdom, where 106,122 cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours, with 140 deaths.

A situation that now seems out of control that of the country that in the last few hours has given the green light to the administration of the third dose of the anti-Covid vaccine even to 16-17 year olds, also recommending the doses for the most clinically vulnerable children aged between 5 and 11 years old, an age group that has so far been totally excluded from any administration in the United Kingdom.

In Great Britain there are 968,665 booster doses administered in the last day, with more than 30.8 million booster doses administered in total in the country, as many as 6.1 million in the last seven days.

REDUCED QUARANTINE - In the meantime, however, the British government has decided to reduce the period of isolation from ten to seven days for those who have contracted the coronavirus (regardless of their vaccination status), and despite the advance of the Omicron variant and the new wave of infections.

Under the new provisions, two negative swabs performed on the sixth and seventh day are required to exit the quarantine.

According to the Minister of Health, Sajid Javid, the decision is based on the latest indications provided by scientists. Furthermore, in this way it is possible to allow more people to spend Christmas with their families without risking transmitting the virus.

At the same time, the government continues to buy large-scale doses of antivirals, as announced in recent months: agreements have been signed for the purchase of 4.25 million of two new drugs that fight Covid, Pfizer's Ritonavir and the Molnupiravir from US rival Merck / MSD, which will be available early next year.
