Goodbye to passport stamps: new IT system now operational at EU airports

Goodbye passport stamps starting Sunday: October 12th marks the start of the computerized entry and exit system for the 29 Schengen member countries.
The new system (Entry-Exit System) will digitally record entries and exits, as well as passport data, fingerprints, and facial images of non-EU citizens traveling for short stays in European Member States.
The EU Council explains that the implementation will be gradual: individual countries will be able to introduce the new system only at certain border points. Implementation must be completed by April 2026.
