Alarm has been raised in Germany following a shooting that occurred in Stade, in the state of Lower Saxony, at a facility that also provides care for minors.

According to police , six people were killed and several injured . Two people have been arrested.

Several gunshots, at least fifteen, were reportedly heard by residents inside the building. According to the German press agency (dpa) , the victims were adults .

Law enforcement surrounded the area.

"I am following the news from Stade, Germany, with deep concern," said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani . "I express my sincere condolences to my friend Johann Wadephul, to the families of the victims, and to all those involved in this tragic episode. Investigations are underway into the possible involvement of fellow countrymen . We stand with Germany in this moment of grief."

According to what the police told AFP, the hypothesis of a "family tragedy" is favoured.
