A middle school teacher in Sanary-sur-Mer , a small French village on the French Riviera , is in serious condition after being stabbed by a 14-year-old student .

The boy was arrested for attempted murder .

According to the local branch of BFM TV, the teacher teaches visual arts at the local "La Guicharde" middle school. The student who attacked her is in his final year of middle school, which corresponds to the first year of high school in Italy.

Investigators said the woman was stabbed "three or four times" and is in hospital in Toulon with a critical prognosis.
