France, explosion in front of a synagogue: one officer injured
Hunt for the perpetrator, who was wearing a Palestinian flag. Macron: "Everything to find him"A police officer was injured this morning following an explosion outside a synagogue in the south of France, in La Grande-Motte.
The explosion was caused by a fire set to two parked cars, one of which had a gas cylinder on board.
The city's surveillance cameras captured footage of an individual setting fire to vehicles, apparently wearing a Palestinian flag. According to a gendarmerie source, two doors of the synagogue were damaged by the fire.
Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin, who confirmed that an officer who was among the first to respond after the explosion had been injured, harshly condemned what he called "a blatantly criminal act", with the investigation being entrusted to the anti-terrorism judiciary.
"I want to assure our Jewish fellow citizens and the affected municipality of my full support and to say that, at the request of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, all means are being mobilized to find the culprit," added Darmanin.
President Macron also explained that the authorities "will do everything to find the person responsible".
