Four oil tankers burst into flames after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's military said late Tuesday that four oil tankers caught fire after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz, an area Washington claims to have largely cleared.

The British shipping agency UKMTO said it had received reports of a "ship" on fire in the Strait of Hormuz, near Oman, without providing details on the condition of the crew or the vessel.

The agency also reported that an oil tanker was hit by a "projectile of unknown origin" in the same strait, with no injuries reported. It is currently unclear whether these were two of the four vessels identified by Iranian forces.
